why i think i'm voting for mccain

last week for family night we decided that we would do some research on the canidates to see who we would vote for. i think the questions that were asked on all the the sites that we found are a little biased toward obama, but either way, it helped me a little to get the idea of which issues each canidate supported. i think both canidates have good and bad qualitites, but when it comes down to it, i think my gut feeling is to go for mccain, and this is why:
  • with the age of supreme court justices getting higher, i think that at least one, maybe more, will retire during the next term of the president. if obama gets elected and the liberal congress stays the way it is, which will most likely happen, we could have a majority of the justices be liberal and not support an overturning of roe v. wade or a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman
  • with the economy heading into a recession, i don't think it would be the right time to raise taxes and increase government spending on universal health care and other additional programs, but to increase tax cuts to promote more consumer spending, just like how ronald reagan delt with the crises after the carter administration.
  • i also like how mccain is willing to consider all forms of energy to decrease the amount of fuel we use, such as drilling for oil off the coasts, nuclear energy, bio-fuel, natural gas, and using wind, hydro, and solar power.

i like obama's positions on school vouchers, gun control, and international policy, but i think the other issues outweigh them. i haven't completely made up my mind, so if you have any comments, let me know.

yo.
My biggest criteria for choosing a candidate for president is international affairs. It's what I know most about and it is what I think our biggest investment ought to be in as far as a president goes. That's why I am voting Obama. His image alone will do wonders for international support, and, just like the economy, a lot of our international influence is based upon image and confidence. His approaches to the Middle East are exactly what I think ought to happen (Iraq excepted, but that is a different animal all together. I think I'll write up my next blog post about my positions on Iraq). Pakistan is totally taking us for all we are worth and not giving anything back. A hardliner stance is necessary for the leaders of Pakistan, Iran, and Syria, but this means we need to talk with them and let them know that we aren't out to kill them all. We need to sit down and let them know that we have demands and that we can work things out. I know McCain and the other republicans do not all believe everything they say about not ever speaking with these leaders- they have to say that so that they look tough in the eyes of their constituents who aren't following international politics and don't understand realpolitik.
In conclusion I say good for finding out what is important for you. Congress is really the place where things happen. It will be interesting to see what will happen now that I am old enough to follow an election and in the U.S.

That's a good family night idea. Maybe we should do that for enrichment or something. At least just give people some options of where to find out about the candidates. Where did you look? I try to listen to NPR or read the online newspapers but they seem biased towards Obama. I like both of them for different reasons, I guess the key is what I think is MOST important.

the website we went to first is votehelp.com. be sure to click the button on the botton so that it asks you all the possible questions. then i went to johnmccain.com and barackobama.com to get understand what is most important to the canidates.
to get some mccain biased views, you can listen to the sean hannity show on 102.7 fm from 1-4 pm. if you want to hear pro obama, just read a news paper or watch the news.
